🤔 Reflection Question
How nutritious is weasel meat in survival situation?
Hit reply — I’d love to hear your take.
In a survival situation, weasel meat is a viable, high-protein food source, though it is often considered a last resort due to the animal's small size and the effort required to catch it. Like most wild game, it is exceptionally lean, offering high-quality complete proteins, essential B vitamins, and key minerals such as iron and zinc that are critical for maintaining energy and immune function during high-stress. However, its low fat content means it provides relatively few calories, which can be a disadvantage in extreme cold where dense energy is needed. As a predator, the weasel carries a higher risk of parasites and diseases compared to herbivores, making it mandatory to cook the meat thoroughly to neutralize potential pathogens. Additionally, extreme care must be taken during field dressing to avoid puncturing their potent scent glands, which can release a foul-smelling fluid that renders the meat nearly unpalatable.
