Based on current research, there is no form of energy generation, including green or renewable energy, that has absolutely zero negative effect on the environment or surrounding life. All human energy infrastructure—from mining materials for solar panels to building massive wind turbines or dams—requires resources, creates waste, and disrupts ecosystems. However, renewable energy sources have significantly lower, and often temporary, impacts compared to the long-term, destructive effects of fossil fuels. While all energy technologies involve some level of extraction and construction, renewable energy is considered a crucial, net-positive solution to climate change, which is the biggest threat to global biodiversity. The goal is not to find a perfect, impact-free source, but to minimize disruption through careful planning, such as using brownfields (abandoned industrial land) for solar farms or placing turbines away from bird migration routes.
