🤔 Reflection Question
How painful is the stingray sting?
Hit reply — I’d love to hear your take.
A stingray sting causes immediate, excruciating, and intense pain that often peaks within 90 minutes and can last for 6 to 48 hours. The pain is described as a sharp, throbbing shock, often accompanied by bleeding, rapid swelling, and, in severe cases, nausea, muscle cramps, and fainting. The barb, located on the tail, contains venom that causes tissue destruction and intense, burning pain. The pain is often described as one of the most severe, with victims frequently experiencing fainting, anxiety, and, in rare, severe instances, paralysis. Immediate, intense pain relief is usually achieved by soaking the wound in hot water (as hot as tolerable, typically 45C to 50C or 110F to 120F to neutralize the venom.
