💬 Quote of the Day
“The act of squeezing prevents the temperature from dropping”
— Neil deGrasse Tyson
🤔 Reflection Question
What's the lowest temperature our strongest pipes would survive?
Hit reply — I’d love to hear your take.
🧠 Insight
There's not a single lowest temperature where the strongest pipes fail. It's about how long they could last because even the strongest ones will burst if the water inside it is at the freezing temperature long enough. Now for the material that is the best for the water pipes in the cold environments where freezing could happen. 'For resisting freezing, PEX (Cross-linked Polyethylene) is the strongest material because its flexibility allows it to expand as ice forms, preventing bursts, unlike rigid copper or CPVC which are prone to splitting under pressure; PEX can survive freezing conditions, though its fittings might fail, and survival time depends on temperature, with a hard freeze potentially causing issues in hours, but PEX delaying the inevitable rupture longer than other pipes.'
