HOW DO THEY START THE FIRE IN WET AMAZON

💬 Quote of the Day

“Almost impossible most of the year, because everything's wet to its core”
Paul Rosolie

🤔 Reflection Question

How do you start a fire in extremely wet environment?
Hit reply — I’d love to hear your take.

To start a fire in a soaked environment, the secret is to look up and split in. Avoid anything on the ground and instead harvest standing deadwood—dead branches still attached to trees—which stays drier thanks to the forest canopy. Once you have your wood, use a knife or hatchet to split it open; even if the bark is dripping, the inner heartwood is usually bone-dry and ready to burn. Shave this dry core into thin feather sticks to create more surface area for the flame to catch. Crucially, build your fire on a raised platform of bark or logs to insulate it from the cold, wet earth, and use three times more small kindling than usual to ensure the heat is intense enough to eventually dry out and ignite larger, damp logs.
