🤔 Reflection Question

At what technological age are the uncontacted tribes?
Hit reply — I’d love to hear your take.

While most uncontacted tribes are often categorized as living in a Stone Age (Neolithic) state, they are not frozen in time but are contemporary societies that have made sophisticated adaptations to their environments. For example, the Sentinelese on North Sentinel Island are technically hunter-gatherers, yet they have entered a scavenged Iron Age by repurposing metal from shipwrecks—such as the MV Primrose in 1981—to forge sharper, more lethal arrowheads and adze blades. Similarly, tribes in the Amazon often utilize found modern objects like plastic containers or metal machetes obtained through inter-tribal trade networks. Interestingly, their isolation is frequently a deliberate choice driven by historical trauma from past violent encounters or devastating epidemics brought by outsiders. This isolation also makes them the most effective guardians of biodiversity; satellite imagery shows that uncontacted territories remain lush islands of green while surrounding lands are often decimated by logging and agribusiness.
