Who was Tommy Dutra?
Hit reply — I’d love to hear your take.

Tommy Dutra was a skilled climber and beloved member of the outdoor community whose life was tragically cut short in August 2020. While climbing in Washington state during the pandemic, Tommy was leading a pitch when he reportedly trended off-route, lost his footing, and took a significant fall. Because he was not wearing his helmet at the time—it was strapped to his pack—he suffered a catastrophic skull fracture upon impacting the rock. Despite the heroic efforts of his climbing partners and search and rescue teams, Tommy remained in a coma for seven days before passing away. His death served as a heartbreaking wake-up call regarding climbing safety, leading his friends and family, including naturalist Forrest Galante, to advocate fiercely for the consistent use of helmets in the backcountry.
