Is the number of sick people in the USA increasing?
Hit reply — I’d love to hear your take.

The number of people with illnesses in the U.S. is currently increasing, primarily driven by a long-term surge in chronic conditions and seasonal infectious disease cycles. As of 2026, healthcare reports indicate that Americans are getting sick more often and earlier in life, with younger generations (Millennials and Gen Z) experiencing nearly double the growth rate in health claims compared to older generations due to earlier onset of metabolic conditions like obesity and diabetes. Chronic disease prevalence continues to rise, with roughly 11.3% of adults now managing three or more conditions simultaneously, up from 10.7% in 2023. In terms of infectious diseases, the 2025-2026 respiratory season has seen significant activity; influenza cases have exceeded 25 million as of early 2026, though acute respiratory activity (including COVID-19 and RSV) is currently trending downward in most regions as of late March. Additionally, lower vaccination rates have led to the highest annual total of measles cases in decades, further contributing to the overall increase in the number of sick individuals.
